"Value Over Price": Perceived value replaces affordability as top purchase predictor
The global consumer landscape has hit a critical turning point where raw price sensitivity is no longer the single deciding factor in purchase conversion. A global study published by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) reveals that perceived value consistently serves as a stronger predictor of a purchase than affordability does.
Consumers have grown fatigued by ongoing inflation and reactive price matching. While budgets remain under scrutiny, buyers are no longer hunting exclusively for the absolute cheapest item on the shelf. Instead, nearly 70% of consumers state they will actively refuse to purchase a product, even one they can easily afford, if it fails to demonstrate clear, tangible value.
Consumers are ruthlessly auditing their spend: they will quickly trade down on generic commodities, while simultaneously defending and even trading up on products that offer undeniable utility, durability, or health benefits.
Why it matters
- The Trap of Discounting: Competing purely on price is a race to the bottom that erodes margins without guaranteeing loyalty. Discounting a product that lacks clear, visible utility will not trigger purchases from value-conscious buyers.
- Shift to Functional Transparency: Brand positioning must pivot away from aspirational marketing slogans toward explicit proof of quality. Highlighting raw material transparency, product longevity, clear health outcomes, or cost-per-use metrics gives buyers the justification they need to convert.
- Re-evaluating ASSORTMENT Assortments: Brands must audit their product portfolios to ensure every SKU clearly communicates a "more for less" equation, delivering superior performance, convenience, or experience relative to its price point.what

Google Ads tests AI-generated ad copy summaries in search results
Google is conducting a live user-interface experiment in Search results, introducing AI-generated summaries that sit directly beneath the main description text on sponsored Google Ads.
The test leverages Google’s Gemini AI models to analyse an advertiser’s ad copy, landing page, and live user search intent to dynamically draft an "independent" summary snippet. The summary appears below the traditional description with a small disclaimer indicating it is an AI-generated explanation. Google confirmed that the test is designed to provide searchers with instant, transparent context before they click through. Crucially, performance teams cannot directly write or edit these AI summaries inside Google Ads dashboards.
Why it matters
- Loss of Brand Copy Control: A business can craft carefully compliant ad copy, but Google's AI may summarise the offer using completely different phrasing. If the landing page messaging does not align cleanly with the ad headline, the AI summary may misrepresent the offer to searchers.
- Shift to Qualified Click Intent: While an unedited summary might reduce vanity click-through rates (CTR) by answering surface-level questions on the search page, the users who do click through arrive with far higher conversion intent.
- Landing Page Clarity is Mandatory: Because the AI model crawls the landing page to build the context snippet, landing pages must be structured with explicit headings, clean schema markup, and transparent product specifications so the AI generates accurate summaries.

Reddit passes 130M daily users as B2B buyer research shifts to forums
Reddit’s Q2 financial reporting confirms that its active daily user base has surged to 130.3 million daily active users, accompanied by a 61% year-on-year revenue surge to $805 million.
The platform’s rapid expansion reflects a fundamental change in search and procurement behaviour. As consumers and enterprise B2B buyers face feeds oversaturated with generic AI-generated blogs, users are actively seeking unedited peer experiences and community discussions to validate purchasing decisions. Furthermore, Reddit’s high indexing authority inside Google Search and conversational AI training pipelines means that organic thread recommendations are heavily influencing buyer shortlists before prospects ever land on a corporate website.
Why it matters
- The Death of Polished Corporate Copy: Enterprise decision-makers trust raw, unedited peer reviews inside subreddits far more than sponsored software review portals or polished corporate white papers.
- The Organic Community Advantage: B2B brands can no longer treat Reddit purely as a channel for broad paid ads. Success requires social monitoring, participating in active industry threads, and empowering staff to provide authentic technical answers.
- Fuelling Conversational AI: Large language models like ChatGPT and Gemini regularly scrape Reddit to answer recommendation prompts. Securing positive, authentic mentions inside key subreddits creates a long-tail compounding effect inside conversational search engines.
